IDENTITY IN CRISIS, IDENTITY IN CHRIST

Title: Identity in Crisis, Identity in Christ
By: Pastor Anthony D. Martinez

Ephesians 3:18-19, “18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high and how deep his love. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Your identity is connected to your destiny. As a matter of fact, your identity in Christ is the core if everything. Knowing our true identity encourages us to live in the truth – and that is called true freedom.

There are two things that establish our identity – one is the Breath of Life that comes from God and His unconditional love for us! Without the breath of life, we are dead. Similarly, without the unconditional love of God, are of no value.

Jeremiah 31:3 says, “The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”

God’s love is unconditional, unending and eternal. And yes, God, Himself, is love. He is consistent. He is not fickle minded. He is never moody and He’s not unpredictable. God’s love always sets us free from performance mindset.

LOVE IS A CHOICE. Part of the nature of love is a choice. If there is no choice, there is no love. God’s love towards us is a choice. And part of the expression of His love for us is His gift of freedom to choose. Without this gift, we are not humans, we are just robots.

However, humans use this will to keep from doing evil and choose to do good, believing this is the way of life. It simply doesn’t work. Our good is never enough. God did not give us the gift of choice to choose between two branches – the good or the evil. More precisely, He has given us the gift of choice between two trees – the Tree of Life or the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Furthermore, God gave us our will to choose to surrender. To surrender means to cease to act. Giving all to Him. Trusting Him in everything. Letting God take full control.
