40-days Praying and Fasting

Praying is a privilege, is an honor and it’s the only way to communicate to our Heavenly Father. Through prayer, we can address our God as “Father”; we can thank him for all the blessings, miracles, favors, etc. and we can ask Him to bless us more and to guide us throughout the day.
Fasting is part of our faith life. Through fasting, God can accelerate our prayer requests; it builds our faith and also makes it easier for us to hear the voice of the Lord.
Maybe you are wandering why I came up with “Praying” and “Fasting”. We will be having our 40 days Congregational Praying and Fasting starting January 8 to February 16, 2012. Actually, it started yesterday.
Our fasting would be like these: We will choose 1 day for the Jewish Fast. For example, I choose Monday then all Mondays from January 8 to February 16 means I’ll fast from 6am-6am the next day. In addition for the 40-day consciousness, the following would also be included in fasting: No Pork, No Beef, No Soft drinks (Sodas), No coffee (for me, hehehe!), No movie, Limited TV time of 2 hours per day, Limited Internet time of 1 hour per day, Simultaneous Prayer Time everyday and NO COMPLAINING.
Here are the goals of our 40-days Praying and Fasting: For the Church - Lot Project, Multiple Celebrations, Multiplication of Life Group Leaders. For the Philippines – Spiritual and Economic Breakthrough, Global Mission. Personal prayer request.
“And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”
(Matthew 6:16-18, NLT)
I know that when we fast it should be done in private but I want to share it with you so that you may also encourage to fast for your Church, Ministry, Family, Friends, Studies and Work.

Dear Daddy God,
We thank you for the privilege to pray and to fast. It’s a great honor for us to communicate to you everyday. We know that when we pray, you are opening the windows of heaven to bless your children. Father, sustain us during this 40days praying and fasting. May we put a smile on your face in everything we do. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
